Our perfect Christmas themed wedding day on 19 December 2015
Penny, Claire & all the Team

We just wanted to say a big thank you for all the help leading up to our wedding. We had an absolutely brilliant wedding day that we will remember forever. The venue was perfect for us and we appreciate all the time and effort you put into helping us.

Best day of our lives!
We had our wedding this month at The Victorian Barn and it was a day we will remember for the rest of our lives for being so perfect. It was wonderful to have all our friends and family gathered in such an amazing venue. The food was great, the accommodation was clean and comfortable. The staff and the owner provided top class service and I would definitely highly recommend this venue for anyone planning a wedding in Dorset.

Lovely Venue - Shame about the owner and customer service
We initially enquired about the Victorian Barn for our wedding via email in October 2011. Penny sent us her Wedding Pack, and advised us to book a viewing to ask questions. We visited the barn twice over the course of a few weeks, and then decided to book the barn at the end of November.

In response to our email booking Penny stated that she believed she had not initially provided us with the 'Full' Wedding Pack and that she had attached it for us to read through. Much to our dismay the 'Full' pack included several charges/conditions that were completely different to the original Wedding Pack we were sent.

Obviously we queried this with Penny and we were bluntly told that we were confused. It is completely apparent that Penny decided to revise her wedding packages and charges between the time we first viewed the barn and when we wanted to make the booking, and has not been honest about this. Instead she has tried to make out that we got it wrong.

Not only do we feel angry and upset about being lied to, we are disappointed that we have wasted the time it has taken to; correspond and meet with four different caterers, visit the barn, and source information from other services that we would need to have our wedding at the barn. All of which has used our time, and fuel for the various trips.

This experience has also caused us a lot of stress, and say that we feel cheated is an understatement.

However, I am a firm believer that every cloud has a silver lining and maybe this happened for a reason. Penny appears to be quite firm on what you can and cannot have at the barn and maybe this would have spoilt our wedding. To put this into perspective; even though the Barn information clearly states that dogs are welcome in some of the accommodation we were abruptly asked if our dogs 'would be caged' during their time at the barn.

We did at the time think that maybe Penny just isn't a dog person, however reflecting on this now I think this was a sign of things to come.

To any prospective couple who are looking at the barn for their wedding - please ensure that you clarify everything with her and that you get the 'full' wedding pack from her in the first instance. Otherwise you could be looking at a great upset like us. Thankfully we are fortunate enough that we found this out now and have time to find a better and more accommodating venue for our day.

Thank you for reading

This is a response by the owner of The Victorian Barn

I am very disappointed to read the comments about The Victorian Barn.

Having held numerous weddings this year and last with very positive reviews I feel there has been some misunderstanding on this occasion.

I would like to point out that this bride and groom were enquiring regarding a wedding in December 2013.

I initially gave them a brief wedding pack as they have rightly said which showed the prices for 2013 and invited them for a viewing. At no time did the pricing in the pack alter. Having being delighted with the venue and deciding to book; I then sent a full pack which includes the ‘terms of business’ and booking form. It is standard policy that a venue will always take a non refundable deposit to reserve the wedding date. The couple could not understand this policy which is normal practice for any venue, caterer, photographer etc.

As a deluxe four star holiday accommodation provider I informed the couple that I could not have the dogs in the bridal suite but I did offer alternative accommodation.

Thank you for reading my response and I hope this clarifies the situation I would be delighted to answer any questions – contact details on my website
